Rep. Monique Priestley Announces Candidacy for Vermont State Senate
BRADFORD, VT – Representative Monique Priestley, currently serving her second term in the Vermont House of Representatives, announced today that she will seek election to the Vermont State Senate in 2026.
“After my first term, I wasn’t sure I’d continue in elected office,” Priestley said. “But something shifted this past year. I’ve found a way to lead that feels deeply aligned with my values – grounded in authenticity, community, and the belief that government should work for everyone. I’m not done. I’m just getting started.”
Throughout her time in the House, Priestley has championed rural equity, data privacy, consumer protection, and youth engagement, earning respect across party lines for her candid leadership and commitment to collaboration. Her background in technology, nonprofit leadership, and grassroots organizing shapes a legislative approach that blends innovation with empathy and action.
Priestley’s Senate campaign will focus on housing, climate resilience, affordability, economic fairness, and government transparency – issues she says are central to rebuilding trust and opportunity in Vermont.
“Affordability isn’t a talking point – it’s a daily reality for families, seniors, and young people trying to make a life here,” Priestley said. “Vermonters sent a clear message this year: it’s time for leadership that listens and responds. We can’t afford to ignore the pressures facing everyday people any longer.”
Priestley emphasized that her campaign will be built on listening and inclusion, inviting Vermonters to participate directly in shaping priorities for the Orange County district and the state.
“This campaign isn’t just about winning a seat,” she said. “It’s about the kind of leadership that brings people in, speaks candidly, and believes in shared power. I want people to feel hopeful about the future again – and know that their voice truly matters.”
Priestley will spend the coming months traveling across the district to meet with residents, town committees, and community leaders.
“Together, we can build what’s next – a Vermont where everyone feels heard, included, and empowered to shape their future.”
